We have 50 odd word templates (not embedded in sharepoint) which have content control boxes embedded in them. In sharepoint we have the columns set up to reflect these control boxes(drop down items to choose from makes our metadata). I'm having a hard time working out how we get the templates to 'talk' to sharepoint to pull the metadata into the sharepoint columns.

Do you need to use info path?I'm not familiar with this software but someone mentioned it. Any ideas please would be appreciated!
